Job Summary

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for specimen collection, processing, testing, reporting, and quality control in a kind and caring manner.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Properly start lab equipment daily; run and document controls.
  2. Draw blood from patients' fingers, ear lobes, or veins, observing principles of asepsis to obtain blood samples.
  3. Follow established procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of patient results.
  4. Perform authorized tests within the technician's skill level as determined by education, training, or experience and technical abilities.
  5. Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or results and follow procedures for the reporting and correction of deviations.
  6. Document corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
  7. Adhere to laboratory quality control procedures and document all Quality Control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and instrument maintenance.
  8. Conduct proficiency testing and maintain records which demonstrate that such testing is conducted in the same manner as patient testing.
  9. Utilize lab software, electronic medical records, and any other lab equipment according to the proper procedure and instruction.
  10. Regular attendance to ensure efficient clinic operations.
  11. Perform drug screening collection procedures in accordance with established rules and regulations.
Required Qualifications:
  1. Phlebotomy certification preferred
  2. Medical Laboratory Technician degree preferred
  3. High school degree or equivalent
  4. 6 months to 1 year of related experience or training preferred
