Role Overview

In the capacity of a Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will be instrumental in guiding our mechanical engineering team, particularly in the realm of water and water recycling non-infrastructure projects. Your technical expertise will be vital in ensuring that our designs comply with relevant legislation and standards while also being optimized for sustainability and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure timely project delivery, adherence to budget constraints, and maintenance of quality standards.
  • Advocate for innovative methodologies and digital technologies to improve project outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships within the @one Alliance and beyond.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, supporting their professional growth.

Role Accountabilities:

Engineering Leadership:

  • Regularly report to the Principal Engineer and work closely with project stakeholders.
  • Assess design deliverables for quality, safety, and compliance, offering guidance to junior team members.
  • Contribute to strategies for construction design management and commissioning.
  • Promote sustainability initiatives and investigate modular construction options.

Health & Safety:

  • Ensure that designs comply with statutory and industry standards, particularly health and safety regulations.
  • Propose alternative solutions to enhance health and safety compliance while minimizing overall costs.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and contribute to lessons learned initiatives.

Transformation:

  • Leverage digital technologies to improve project efficiency and accuracy.
  • Support initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable construction practices.
  • Mentor team members and provide technical guidance to encourage continuous improvement.

Skills and Experience Required:

A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline is essential for this role, along with demonstrable experience in mechanical engineering, ideally within the water sector. Strong leadership capabilities, coupled with a proven track record of mentoring junior engineers, are crucial. A thorough understanding of industry standards, regulations, and best practices is required, along with proficiency in CAD software and other relevant engineering tools. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are also necessary.
