We are seeking an experienced Import/Export Assistant to join our busy import/export department at Kingdom People. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth clearance of goods through customs and resolving any issues that may arise during the process.

About the Role:

As an Import/Export Assistant, you will be responsible for:

  • Preparing and submitting accurate customs declarations for EU and non-EU clients
  • Verifying C88 document details, including origin and customs codes, into CDS
  • Understanding and double-checking manufacturer and commercial invoices
  • Ensuring insurance and freight costs are included in C88 submissions
  • Collating all documents prior to arrival of goods
  • Submitting invoice data into the Corporate Accounting team
  • Managing communications and requests with local and national authorities
  • Conducting internal audits of customs-related documents for accuracy and working with colleagues to amend discrepancies and raise knowledge levels
  • Acting as the escalation point for all operational queries
  • Responding to system failures and invoking fallback procedures if necessary
  • Coordinating with couriers to facilitate the smooth clearance of goods through customs and resolving any issues that may arise during the process
  • Assessing and correctly coding/identifying products for export with the latest tariff codes and country of origin, required for customs export paperwork when shipping goods
  • Being proactive in identifying any changes within the tariff system issued by HMRC
  • Preparing and reviewing all necessary import/export documentation and ensuring that all imports are registered correctly and in a timely manner
  • Ensuring all records are up to date, including import transactions, customs clearance documents, and shipping records
  • Working closely with the finance department to monitor and control import-related costs, ensuring that budgets are adhered to and cost-saving opportunities are identified
  • Proactively identifying and addressing any issues related to import processes, collaborating with internal teams and external partners to find effective solutions
  • Maintaining and managing import files, investigating differences, adding corrections, and reconciling HMRC statements
About You:

We are looking for an experienced Import/Export Assistant with at least 2 years of experience in a busy import/export department. You should be IT competent, a strong team player, and have outstanding attention to detail. You should also be able to prioritize your workload effectively.
