Position Overview
ERT is in search of a Network Engineer to contribute to the support of NOAA's Satellite Control operations. The role encompasses various responsibilities including mission support, routine upkeep, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and aiding in the implementation of technological refreshes and the integration of new subsystems. The Network Engineer will be tasked with planning and coordinating activities, identifying dependencies, mitigating risks, executing low-impact procedures, conducting analyses, implementing configurations, and creating as well as updating documentation and diagrams. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Execute routine tasks and procedures to manage and maintain network infrastructure hardware and software.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve issues within the LAN/WAN infrastructure.
  • Assist in integration efforts for architectural enhancements, new subsystems, migrations, operating system upgrades, hardware upgrades, and more.
  • Document configuration modifications in the configuration management system.
  • Monitor and report on device health and status, bandwidth utilization, uptime, outage and anomaly tracking, and threat detection/prevention.
  • Record problem resolution activities in the ticketing system.
  • Review and maintain documentation and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Provide on-call and after-hours support as necessary.

Required Qualifications

A minimum of 4 years of experience leading to:

  • Proficiency in fault-tolerance and high-availability systems, stateful failover, open standards solutions, system performance, and Continuity of Operations (COOP).
  • Understanding of Next-generation firewalls (NGFW), security zones, and defense-in-depth strategies.
  • Ability to configure, optimize, and troubleshoot routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP.
  • Capability to configure, optimize, and troubleshoot network protocols including VRRP (or HSRP), STP, LACP, MLAG (or vPC), Dot1q, among others.
  • Familiarity with cabling standards such as TIA/EIA, ISO/IEC, IEEE, and others.

Candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents and have resided in the United States for at least 3 of the past 5 years to qualify for a background investigation necessary for obtaining a security badge to access the relevant government facilities/systems.

Educational Background
A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, a related field, or equivalent experience is required.
