Key Responsibilities

The Forensic Clinical Supervisor will play a crucial role in overseeing and managing key focus areas, including:

  • Ensuring patient safety
  • Governance and assurance frameworks
  • Enhancing and expanding evidence-based therapeutic options and clinical pathways
  • Leading initiatives to improve service user experiences and collaborative practices
  • Identifying and managing risks
  • Actively engaging staff and patients in the development and execution of the clinical vision, strategy, and quality enhancements

The successful candidate will be an integral part of the team, specializing in the development and implementation of services and care pathways. They will provide clinical leadership, mentorship, and support to colleagues.

Clinical Supervisor Role Description

Communication and Relationship Management

  • Provide clinical leadership, guidance, and support to all clinical personnel across the organization, including mediation in clinical disagreements.
  • Ensure comprehensive clinical supervision arrangements are established for all clinical staff.
  • Attend Governance meetings, offering regular updates and assurances regarding service governance.
  • Champion patient involvement and experience across the organization, demonstrating engagement and improvement.
  • Lead the formulation of quality improvement strategies for the organization.
  • Establish a strategy to monitor clinical outcomes and utilize this information to drive service enhancements.
  • Manage untoward incidents through the Risk Register system, escalating as necessary to relevant bodies.
  • Promote and support the development of strategies, service enhancements, and the implementation of new clinical models and best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with the Hospital Director to ensure optimal utilization of staff, financial, and other resources.
  • Encourage and lead research and audit initiatives across the organization.
  • Foster ongoing leadership development within the organization.

Knowledge, Training, and Experience Requirements

  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of Clinical Leadership, with a commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Demonstrate evidence of Management and Leadership Development focused on clinical leadership.
  • Have specialized knowledge of regulatory framework requirements.
  • Ability to interpret changes in national policies and guidelines, influencing practice and service delivery accordingly.
  • Manage complex and sensitive information, engaging individuals and governance groups through clear and reasoned findings.
  • Understand and support actions in response to audits, guidelines, and reviews in a fair manner.
  • Engage in active clinical practice related to forensic mental health.
  • Ensure student nurses on clinical placements receive appropriate supervision and assessment.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of responsibilities under relevant mental health legislation.
  • Understand NICE guidelines pertinent to patients with personality disorders and complex trauma.
  • Comprehend psychological formulation as required by NICE guidance.

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills

  • Exhibit strong leadership skills and drive the strategic direction of the team.
  • Collaborate with others to review sensitive information and identify themes and trends for learning opportunities.
  • Possess high analytical skills, capable of presenting complex data clearly.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • Relevant higher degree (MSc, PhD) or additional clinical qualifications.
  • Membership in a national professional body.
  • Experience in nursing and care models for individuals with complex trauma and personality disorders.
  • Training in patient safety and quality improvement methodologies.
  • Training in healthcare leadership and management.
  • Knowledge of relevant specialist services.
  • Proven commitment to enhancing clinical care.
  • Excellent clinical and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage clinical and systemic complexities.
  • Make evidence-based decisions, incorporating contributions from others.
