As a Certified Building Compliance Officer, you will play a crucial role in upholding the Council's responsibility to enforce Building Regulations and related legislation within the region.
This position serves as a career advancement opportunity, welcoming applications from Building Compliance Officers of all experience levels, which will be reflected in your responsibilities and compensation.
In collaboration with a dedicated team, you will perform essential building control functions, ensuring that submitted proposals and on-site work adhere to current regulations and standards.
Your Daily ResponsibilitiesEach day, you will provide expert technical guidance and manage a portfolio of cases or projects that necessitate the application of technical expertise and compliance with established regulations and procedures.
You will be responsible for planning and organizing projects to achieve specific technical outcomes, standards, and timelines, utilizing data to inform your recommendations.
By methodically evaluating design options and strategies, you will:
- Plan project execution and oversee delivery.
- Engage in negotiations and decision-making with developers, consultants, other agencies, and contractors to ensure compliance with appropriate standards.
You will also offer specialized advice to clients on interpreting and applying policies and technical principles, while highlighting any implications, risks, benefits, and potential solutions.
As part of your duties, you will participate in an on-call rotation for emergency responses to hazardous structures, which may require night work, accompanied by additional compensation for out-of-hours duties.
Work EnvironmentThis role offers a hybrid working arrangement, combining office, site, and remote work. You will be expected to be office or site-based for 50% of your working week.
Qualifications and Skills RequiredTo be considered for this position, you must possess:
- A degree or equivalent qualification in a building-related field, or relevant practical experience.
- Registration with the Building Safety Regulator at Class 2 category A (Domestic) as a minimum.
- Demonstrated practical experience, supported by evidence of specialized knowledge and the ability to address technical challenges.
- Experience in plan checking and conducting site inspections.
- Proficiency in Building Control software and familiarity with various software packages, including in-house systems.
- The ability to prioritize effectively when managing competing workloads.
Excellent numerical, verbal, and written communication skills are essential for conveying complex technical information effectively.
