Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged for a Band 5 Clinical Research Specialist to join our dedicated Research Team.

The Clinical Research Specialist collaborates with the clinical research team to ensure the ethical and safe execution of research in compliance with the Research Governance Framework and Good Clinical Practice guidelines, safeguarding the rights, safety, and well-being of study participants.

You will engage with the research team to strategize, execute, organize, and oversee multiple concurrent research initiatives. Establish connections with Multidisciplinary Teams across the organization and relevant local and national entities. Oversee and manage the pertinent study portfolio, ensuring recruitment targets are met in alignment with performance and monitoring objectives.

Additionally, you will be accountable for the execution and oversight of clinical requirements associated with research to guarantee the successful delivery of clinical trials. You will ensure that all research activities are conducted according to established protocols and will be responsible for the recruitment, data collection, and care of research participants, focusing on delivering a high-quality experience.

Main Responsibilities

  • The research portfolio encompasses both randomized controlled trials and observational studies across various specialties. Our portfolio has expanded significantly, enabling us to provide our local patient population with access to cutting-edge clinical trials.
  • The successful candidate must be organized, self-motivated, and capable of prioritizing their workload. Responsibilities will include data collection and, under supervision, assisting the team with participant recruitment for trials. A vital aspect of this role will involve liaising with all members of the multidisciplinary team, necessitating excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

About Us

The clinical research delivery team recruits participants from various specialties into both commercial and non-commercial clinical trials and research studies. We offer research expertise from study setup through informed consent, trial treatments, interventions, and follow-up. Our team utilizes a variety of clinical database systems to ensure high-quality clinical data collection.

We uphold the safe conduct of research in accordance with the Research Governance Framework and Good Clinical Practice guidelines, ensuring the rights, safety, and well-being of trial participants are prioritized.

Qualifications & Training

Essential

  • Relevant Healthcare Degree
  • Registered Nurse/AHP Practitioner

Desirable

  • Research training (GCP, degree module, or informed consent)

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable computer literacy, including ECDL qualification or similar, Outlook email and calendars, Microsoft Office proficiency, and basic Excel skills.
  • Understanding of the significance of research and the application of validated results to enhance practice.
  • Familiarity with data collection and entry for clinical trials.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work autonomously and within a team.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage workload effectively.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in various situations.
  • Commitment to professional development and integrity in the role.
  • Willingness to work across different sites, including community settings if necessary.
  • Ability to convey complex information to patients, caregivers, and team members.

Desirable

  • Venepuncture/Cannulation skills.
  • ECG Competency.
  • Knowledge of Research Governance Framework and GCP Guidelines.
  • Post-graduate qualification in teaching or equivalent.
  • Experience in Clinical Trials.
  • Familiarity with research methodologies and established databases for data entry.
  • Proven track record of meeting targets.
  • Strong listening and counseling skills.
  • Ability to maintain focus during prolonged data collection and adhere to trial protocols.
