Brighton, Brighton and Hove, United Kingdom University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (279) Full time

Position Overview

We are seeking enthusiastic, dependable, and detail-oriented individuals with experience in NHS laboratory settings for a Clinical Laboratory Support Specialist role within the Blood Sciences division at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.

This position is ideal for meticulous individuals who thrive in high-pressure environments, contributing to essential services that aid in patient diagnosis and treatment.

Strong communication skills are crucial for this role. Proficiency in IT, particularly data entry, is a key component; prior laboratory experience is advantageous but not mandatory. The role requires flexibility to work night shifts to support the continuous laboratory operations.

The Blood Sciences Department encompasses various areas including Routine Haematology, Coagulation, Chemistry Automation, and Blood Transfusion. The selected candidate will rotate through these sections to develop the necessary competencies for 24/7 service delivery.

Significant investments are being made within the Trust, including the development of a new Teaching, Trauma, and Tertiary Care Centre, reinforcing our position as a leading healthcare provider in the region.

Key Responsibilities

University Hospitals Sussex operates as a newly established NHS Foundation Trust, integrating Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust and Western Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.

The department provides round-the-clock services, with standard operating hours varying by site. The working hours typically range from 06:00 to 20:00, Monday to Friday, with a shift system in place for out-of-hours coverage. The role involves working across multiple hospital sites and performing various tasks to ensure the efficient operation of the Blood Sciences service.

This position combines administrative responsibilities, such as managing the reception area and processing blood samples, with basic laboratory support tasks, including conducting standard tests and assisting with routine analytical work under supervision.

The successful candidate will effectively balance these dual responsibilities, serving as a vital support member of the Blood Sciences team.
