Laboratory Support Role in a Dynamic Healthcare Setting
We are seeking a dedicated and meticulous Clinical Laboratory Technician to join our team at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. In this role, you will play a vital part in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of clinical samples, contributing directly to patient care.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform routine checks on samples received for identification, status, and suitability for diagnostic investigations.
- Conduct basic analytical work using quality control samples to guarantee accuracy and precision in test results.
- Participate in external quality assurance analysis programs to maintain high standards of laboratory performance.
- Assist with the referral of complex samples to specialized reference laboratories when necessary.
- Prepare essential reagents, stock solutions, and laboratory disinfectants to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
- Manage clinical samples effectively, prioritizing them according to urgency and resolving any issues such as leaking samples, labeling errors, or missing information.
- Screen routine samples as appropriate, utilizing your knowledge of diagnostic procedures.
- Order supplementary tests when required, ensuring accurate sample retrieval, communication with relevant personnel, and provision of necessary information.
- Report any sample anomalies promptly, including mislabeled or misplaced specimens, test recalls, process failures, and equipment malfunctions to the appropriate pathology support services manager or laboratory staff.
- NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent in a relevant field.
- Proven experience working within a Blood Sciences laboratory setting.
- Demonstrated understanding of medical terminology and biomedical investigations.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong time management abilities and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in basic IT skills for data entry into the Pathology Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
