Job Overview

Objective of the Role

The primary aim of this position is to enhance the quality of DPD's technical Transport & Fleet Apprentice Programs by overseeing and assisting Apprentices in both practical and theoretical components of their training and daily responsibilities. Additionally, this role will provide support to the LGV Training department and the broader organization through industry knowledge and expertise in driving roles, while fostering skill development.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities outlined below are not exhaustive and may evolve based on operational needs or additional business requirements.

a. Operational Duties

Supervise all Apprentices enrolled in the following programs: LGV, Urban Driver, Fleet & Transport.

Offer mentorship to all Transport & Fleet Apprentices, including LGV & VMU Apprentices.

Actively assist with training specific to qualifications, exam preparation, and presentation skills.

Coordinate with the Driver Training Manager - Safety & Content to ensure all communications, updates, and roster modifications are effectively conveyed to Apprentices.

Support the planning and execution of the pre-opex Apprentice project for Fleet & Transport.

Collaborate with departmental managers of Apprentices to facilitate off-job training release.

Ensure all Apprentices are knowledgeable about and adhere to company policies and procedures, providing support and escalation as necessary.

Contribute to the development of a sustainable Apprenticeship program within Fleet & Transport, encompassing driving and technical roles to support succession planning for DPD.

Engage with external training providers to ensure programs are executed effectively and that learners and DPD derive maximum benefit.

Conduct monthly one-on-one meetings with learners and periodic reviews with learners and training providers.

Work with the Early Careers team to ensure programs meet all DPD standards and fulfill the technical and operational needs of the business.

Evaluate program success and report on key performance indicators to inform strategy with operations regarding future cohorts and program adjustments.

b. Financial Management

Adhere to all financial protocols, including the Expenses Policy.

Maintain flexibility to travel as needed to minimize operational costs within Transport and the wider Network.

c. Service Delivery

Assist LGV Training, Apprentices, and the broader Transport & Fleet departments through timely and professional training delivery.

d. Health, Safety & Security Compliance

Consistently comply with Health, Safety & Security protocols at all sites and for customers (where applicable).

Communicate all pertinent Health, Safety & Security information to drivers during assessments, inductions, and training sessions.

Relay all relevant Health, Safety & Security information to customers and their staff during site visits and equipment training.

e. Human Resources Communication

Convey all relevant company information during assessments, inductions, and training sessions.

Performance Metrics

Monitor apprentice attendance for training sessions.

Ensure timely progress reporting and communication with management.

Demonstrate flexibility and approachability.

Training and Development

Participate in initial induction training.

Engage in development training through both external and internal programs.

Conduct monthly one-on-one meetings with the Driver Training Manager - Safety & Content.

Attend training as required due to relevant legislative or company changes.

Complete all other company training as required.
