Unlock the Secrets of London's Built Environment

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled researcher to join our team as an AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Award holder. The successful candidate will work on a collaborative project with Professor Amy Erickson and Dr. Alexis Litvine, exploring the digitized fire insurance records from the late 17th to the mid-19th century.

The project offers a unique opportunity to develop your own research project, focusing on building history, economic history, or prosopographical studies of property owners. You will gain skills in palaeography, large-scale data analysis, and digital mapping, and contribute to the history of London's built environment.

As a member of our team, you will have access to a wealth of historical data and resources, including the digitized fire insurance records, Land Tax records, and records of the London Livery Companies. You will work closely with our supervisors to develop your research project and prepare an exhibition on the archive and your own research for presentation at Aviva's headquarters and central London office.

The AHRC DTP studentships will provide an annual maintenance grant to cover living costs and university tuition fees at home fee level. The gap between the home and overseas fee rates will be covered by the University through internal co-funding for international candidates.

To be considered for this opportunity, please submit your application through the University Postgraduate Application Portal. Informal enquiries about the project should be directed to the University supervisor.
