Position: W3C Standards Delegate

Type: Permanent

Location: On-Site West London (3 days per week)

Salary: Flexible

We are seeking a dedicated web standards technologist to play a pivotal role in the advancement of W3C and associated web standards. This position involves supporting content creators and the development community in leveraging these standards effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead standardization initiatives within W3C and contribute to the formulation of future web standards.
  • Engage with the web development community to advocate for web standards and gather insights on future browser market requirements.
  • Provide strategic guidance to development teams to influence the evolution of internet browsers and contributions to open-source projects.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Actively represent and participate in W3C standards activities.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of web standardization in alignment with browser and product roadmaps.
  • Shape product strategies to ensure alignment with the development of web standards.
  • Engage with developers through various channels, including blog posts, conference presentations, and social media, to promote the adoption of web standards and features.
  • Develop prototypes to assist in the creation of APIs and demonstrations in collaboration with internal and external partners.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Electronics, Natural Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong background in web development with a solid understanding of current and emerging web standards, particularly those from W3C.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, Web APIs, and related technologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to deliver high-quality solutions within set constraints.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of presenting information clearly and engagingly to diverse audiences at external events.
  • Willingness to travel internationally as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working within W3C standards or specification groups.
  • Familiarity with emerging privacy standardization efforts and privacy-preserving features in browsers.
  • Experience in writing technical blogs and contributing to podcasts or other forms of social media communication.
  • Knowledge of the mobile device and browser landscape.
  • Familiarity with the Android platform.
  • Public speaking experience.
  • Proficiency in additional languages beyond fluent English, both written and spoken.
