Position Overview

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is a prominent multi-site acute healthcare provider located in North West London, actively participating in the NWL Acute Provider Collaborative.

The Chief Nursing Officer seeks to enhance her leadership team by appointing a Chief Nursing Executive to deliver professional and motivational guidance across nursing and midwifery disciplines. This role involves collaboration with the Executive Team and Trust Board members.

Successful candidates will exhibit enthusiasm, strategic vision, autonomy, and the capability to plan and showcase ongoing enhancements in nursing and midwifery practices and patient care.

As a Pathway to Excellence designated organization, the ability to empower nursing staff, team leaders, and charge nurses is essential, alongside maintaining clinical credibility and visibility across all healthcare facilities. The Chief Nursing Executive will spearhead various nursing and midwifery initiatives, including safe staffing levels, Pathway to Excellence, and NMAHP education and research. Opportunities to engage regionally, nationally, and internationally in nursing and midwifery programs will be available.

This position represents an excellent opportunity for an existing Chief Nursing Executive or a Deputy Director to advance and lead a remarkable team of nurses and midwives within a dynamic, values-driven organization.

Key Responsibilities

The Chief Nursing Executive is a vital member of the Chief Nursing Officer's leadership team. This role is instrumental in supporting the execution of the Trust's strategic objectives, particularly the nursing and midwifery strategy, ensuring exceptional nursing and midwifery care, and managing the daily operational requirements of the corporate nursing and midwifery functions.

By collaborating with divisional teams and Divisional Directors of Nursing and Midwifery, the Chief Nursing Executive will provide proactive, value-adding, strategic leadership to achieve the shared nursing and midwifery vision of excellence, as well as the corporate nursing and midwifery team objectives.

The Chief Nursing Executive will assist the Chief Nursing Officer across a comprehensive range of duties and responsibilities, offering professional nursing and midwifery leadership, expertise, and counsel on operational and strategic matters within the Trust, across the Acute Provider Collaborative, Integrated Care System, and NHS England.

This role reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer and collaborates closely with the Medical Directors' Office, the Chief People Officer's Office, and other executive directors.

  • Registered Nurse or Midwife with current and valid NMC registration
  • Master's level qualification or equivalent experience

  • Proven success in leading, developing, implementing, and delivering strategies to enhance outcomes
