Overview

The Ministry of Defence – Royal Navy is seeking a dedicated individual to join our esteemed team as a Trainee Maritime Pilot. This role is pivotal in ensuring the safe navigation of vessels within designated maritime zones.

Position Summary

As a Trainee Maritime Pilot, you will embark on a comprehensive training program designed to equip you with the necessary skills and knowledge to become a fully qualified maritime pilot. This position is integral to the operational efficiency of our naval base, which serves as a critical support hub for various maritime operations.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary responsibilities will include:
  • Providing expert guidance to commanding officers and bridge teams of naval vessels.
  • Assuming full accountability for the safe maneuvering of vessels utilizing tugs and other support assets.
  • Delivering pertinent pilotage information to vessels operating within the designated maritime area.

Training and Development

As a trainee, you will be required to complete a structured training program, which includes:
  • Observing and participating in pilotage operations under the supervision of qualified maritime pilots.
  • Engaging in tug familiarization training to enhance operational readiness.
  • Documenting training experiences and successfully passing examinations to obtain necessary pilot licenses.

Work Schedule

Upon successful completion of the training program, you will be expected to participate in a shift system that provides 24/7 pilotage support, ensuring operational readiness throughout the year.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess:
  • STCW II/2 command qualification or an equivalent qualification.
  • Relevant experience as a command or senior deck officer.
  • A valid ENG1 medical certificate.
