Job Summary:
Serco Maritime is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as an Apprentice Seafarer Deck Rating. As a key member of our deck department, you will be responsible for assisting vessel crew in deck operations, learning and performing watchkeeping duties, and maintaining the safety and security of the vessel and its crew.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist vessel crew in deck operations, including mooring and unmooring, cargo handling, and maintenance of vessel equipment.
- Learn and perform watchkeeping duties, including keeping a lookout on a sea passage during daylight or darkness as required by the master.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the vessel, including own accommodation, mess room, galley, toilets, stairways, and other areas.
- Learn and perform routine maintenance of the vessel and its equipment, including mooring winches, windlass, cranes, watertight doors, lifesaving and firefighting appliances, and other equipment as required by the master.
- Maintain own safety and security and that of the other persons, vessel, and its equipment, and environment while employed on-board.

- Learn and perform all tasks as required in the Able Seafarer (Deck) Training record book.
- Successfully complete all training as required by Able Seafarer Deck Apprentice Standard.
- Obtain the required sea service in the time period allocated by the Maritime Training Officer.
- Comply with the UK MCA's Merchant Navy Code of Conduct at all times.
- Undertake other duties commensurate with the level of the post as may be reasonably required from time to time.
Requirements:
- Eligible for UK passport.
- Capable of obtaining an ENG1 Unrestricted Medical Certificate including eyesight examination. An offer of apprenticeship will be made subsequent to obtaining ENG1 certificate.
- Academic Qualifications – preferred A level Mathematics or equivalent T level will be accepted.
- Minimum 4 GCSEs at grade C or above including Mathematics, English, and Physical Based Science or equivalent qualifications from Scotland or Northern Ireland.
