About the Role: Serco Maritime is seeking an Apprentice Seafarer Deck Rating to join our team in Devonport.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Work as a member of the deck department on-board assigned vessels.
  2. Learn and perform watchkeeping duties during day or night shifts, both at sea.
  3. Perform housekeeping duties, including cleanliness of own accommodation, mess room, galley, toilets, stairways, and other areas of the vessel.
  4. Learn and perform routine maintenance of the vessel and its equipment.
  5. Maintain own safety and security and that of other persons, vessel, and its equipment, and environment while employed on-board.
  6. Learn and operate mooring winches, windlass, cranes, watertight doors, lifesaving, and firefighting appliances or other equipment as required by the master.
  7. Learn and perform all tasks as required in the Able Seafarer (Deck) Training record book.
  8. Successfully complete all training as required by Able Seafarer Deck Apprentice Standard.
  9. Obtain the required sea service in the time period allocated by the Maritime Training Officer.
  10. Comply with the UK MCA's Merchant Navy Code of Conduct at all times.

Requirements:

  1. Eligible for a UK passport.
  2. Capable of obtaining an ENG1 Unrestricted Medical Certificate, including eyesight examination.
  3. Academic Qualifications – preferred A level Mathematics or equivalent T level will be accepted.
  4. Minimum 4 GCSEs at grade C or above, including Mathematics, English, and Physical Based Science or equivalent qualifications from Scotland or Northern Ireland.
