Physiotherapist Specialist

As a Band 6 Physiotherapist at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of the physiotherapy team.
Main Responsibilities:- Support the planning and organisation of physiotherapy team activities and programmes, working closely with senior staff and clinical team leaders.
- Teach, supervise, and appraise recently qualified physiotherapists, physiotherapy assistants, and undergraduate students, promoting their professional development and growth.
- Adhere to departmental protocols, Trust policies, and professional codes of conduct, ensuring the highest standards of patient care and safety.
- Promote equality and diversity practices, actively contributing to the development of strategic management in this area to ensure equity of access to care for patients and job opportunities for staff.
- Assess capacity to give consent, gain informed consent, and work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment, with guidance from senior staff.
- Communicate effectively with patients and carers, persuading, motivating, and reassuring them to undertake their treatment programme, ensuring understanding of their condition and maximising rehabilitation potential.
- Clearly communicate complex and sensitive information to staff, patients, and carers, including explaining diagnoses or prognoses about long-term disabilities or chronic pain.
- Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date documentation in line with legal and departmental requirements.
- Represent the physiotherapy department in good standing within the trust and external agencies, promoting the department's reputation and interests.
- Report verbal/formal complaints, incidents, and accidents to physiotherapy management as soon as possible.
Essential:
- Diploma in Physiotherapy or BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy or MSc Rehab studies or overseas equivalent or Degree/Diploma in Osteopathy.
- Evidence of relevant post-graduate courses/CPD and reflective practice.
- Post-graduate experience working as a junior physiotherapist or osteopath.
- Health and Care Professions Council registration.
Desirable:
- Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and/or relevant Clinical Interest Groups.
- Experience of community-based services.
- Able to utilise a range of treatment skills such as massage, joint mobilisation, exercise prescription, and therapeutic handling.

- Ability to build and maintain relationships with physiotherapy and multidisciplinary teams.
Desirable:
- Giving presentations to physiotherapy colleagues and to audiences of mixed professional backgrounds.
- Ability to carry out formal assessment of undergraduate physiotherapy students.
