Job Title: Band 6 Physiotherapist

As a Band 6 Physiotherapist at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of the physiotherapy team.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Support the planning and organisation of physiotherapy team activities and programmes, working closely with senior staff and clinical team leaders.
  2. Teach, supervise, and appraise recently qualified physiotherapists, physiotherapy assistants, and undergraduate students, promoting their professional development and growth.
  3. Adhere to departmental protocols, Trust policies, and professional codes of conduct, ensuring the highest standards of patient care and safety.
  4. Promote equality and diversity practices, actively contributing to the development of strategic management in this area to ensure equity of access to care for patients and job opportunities for staff.
  5. Assess capacity to give consent, gain informed consent, and work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment, with guidance from senior staff.
  6. Communicate effectively with patients and carers, persuading, motivating, and reassuring them to undertake their treatment programme, ensuring understanding of their condition and maximising rehabilitation potential.
  7. Clearly communicate complex and sensitive information to staff, patients, and carers, including explaining diagnoses or prognoses about long-term disabilities or chronic pain.
  8. Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date documentation in line with legal and departmental requirements.
  9. Represent the physiotherapy department in good standing within the trust and external agencies, promoting the department's reputation and interests.
  10. Report verbal/formal complaints, incidents, and accidents to physiotherapy management as soon as possible.
Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Diploma in Physiotherapy or BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy or MSc Rehab studies or overseas equivalent or Degree/Diploma in Osteopathy.
  • Evidence of relevant post-graduate courses/CPD and reflective practice.
  • Post-graduate experience working as a junior physiotherapist or osteopath.
  • Health and Care Professions Council registration.

Desirable:

  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and/or relevant Clinical Interest Groups.
  • Experience of community-based services.
  • Able to utilise a range of treatment skills such as massage, joint mobilisation, exercise prescription, and therapeutic handling.

People Management and Development:

Essential:

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with physiotherapy and multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable:

  • Giving presentations to physiotherapy colleagues and to audiences of mixed professional backgrounds.
  • Ability to carry out formal assessment of undergraduate physiotherapy students.
