About the Role

Job Summary

SSE PLC is seeking a highly skilled Community Investment Manager to join our team. As a key member of our Community Investment team, you will play a pivotal role in empowering local initiatives and projects across the north of Scotland.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, and administer a portfolio of community funds across the north of Scotland, primarily in Sutherland and Caithness.
  • Work with communities and community organizations to support them in ensuring that the funding delivers legacy for the area.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with communities, built on trust.
  • Take a flexible approach to funding and supporting communities to think strategically about how the funding can be used.
  • Assess applications to funds on a fair and equal basis and present these assessments to local decision-making panels.
  • Act as an ambassador for SSE PLC, seeking to build strong relationships with local and regional stakeholders from community representatives to politicians.
  • Work closely with and advise SSE business units on community development and community funding matters such as policy and best practice.
  • Support internal and external communications about our community benefit funds, how they are operating, and the impact they are delivering.

Requirements

  • Strong planning and administration skills, with the ability to manage several community funds simultaneously.
  • A background in and commitment to supporting community development or the Third Sector, with an understanding of the challenges facing communities.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence in presenting to both small and large groups of people.
  • Experience of dealing with a range of external stakeholders.
  • An excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office to enable you to produce first-class reports and case studies.
  • A degree of flexibility is also required, as your role will include working out-with core hours, particularly evenings, and significant travel mainly in Scotland but potentially across the UK and Ireland.
