Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team in a correctional setting. As an LPN, you will provide evidence-based nursing care to patients and employees, utilizing the nursing process, principles, practices, and techniques of general nursing care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care to patients and employees, including administering medications, providing first aid and basic life support, and maintaining open lines of communication with security and treatment staff.
  • Screen for sick call and refer necessary cases to other medical professionals.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient information and treatment plans.
  • Interact with other departments as needed to ensure seamless care and services.
  • Promote continued competence through education and certification, with a focus on correctional nursing.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Valid unrestricted Virginia LPN license issued by the board of nursing or a multi-state compact license.
  • Demonstrated ability to screen complaints of physical ailments and refer necessary cases to other medical professionals.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate documentation, provide first aid, and carry out providers' orders in applying treatments.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a corrections or law enforcement environment.
  • Experience or related training in delivery of general nursing and emergency medical care.
