Operations Manager for Waste Management – Permanent Position

Salary: Competitive Salary + Benefits

Location: Aberdeen (South)

About the Role

We are seeking to appoint an Operations Manager who will oversee and coordinate all site operations. The ideal candidate will lead daily management activities in strict adherence to local regulations, budgetary constraints, cost management, and internal policies to ensure safe, efficient operations, operational excellence, and high levels of customer satisfaction. This role will involve close collaboration with the current management team to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and service agreements. Your contributions will be pivotal in achieving strategic objectives, annual goals, investments, and related initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote a culture of zero accidents on site
  • Take full accountability for Quality, Environment, Safety, and Health (QESH) activities and outcomes
  • Ensure compliance with licensing requirements regarding emissions
  • Oversee the quality assurance system at the facility
  • Implement necessary measures to guarantee continuous operations, ensuring installation availability and budget adherence
  • Maintain high standards of maintenance
  • Efficiently plan and execute shutdowns within designated timelines and budgets
  • Develop and implement strategies for continuous improvement to adapt to evolving safety, environmental, quality, customer, and cost requirements
  • Prepare operational budgets for approval and monitor progress towards targets
  • Control costs and monitor profitability
  • Ensure the plant is staffed with qualified and trained personnel
  • Foster team development and motivation for ongoing improvement
  • Implement a performance management and equitable reward system for all employees in line with company policies
  • Exhibit consistent and fair leadership
  • Build and maintain customer relationships, ensuring a positive customer experience at the facility
  • Manage contracts for consumables and raw materials
  • Oversee the effective disposal of plant residues in collaboration with the Commercial Department
  • Maintain positive relationships with local communities, authorities, regulators, and competitors
  • Develop a broad network across the organization through proactive engagement with other managers and peers
  • Guide and mentor the management team to optimize personnel, systems, facilities, capabilities, and opportunities
  • Engage with authorities, suppliers, competitors, regulators, local communities, customers, and internal contacts
  • Collaborate closely with Sales, Safety, Finance, and Human Resources departments.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Mining) or an additional degree in Business Management, Master’s degree, or equivalent experience
  • Over 5 years of managerial experience in an industrial setting, preferably in waste management, power generation, mining, steam plant operations, or petrochemicals
  • Experience with safety and environmental management systems
  • Proven experience in broad people management within an industrial context
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with stakeholders
  • Familiarity with environmental legislation and policy
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and SAP
