Overhead Line Technician

This technician will report to the field staff supervisor and will operate within Network Operations as part of our dedicated team.

Job Purpose:

Your role will involve managing the execution of network enhancement initiatives and restoring electrical supplies on the distribution system, focusing on repairs to overhead lines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform all tasks related to the construction, maintenance, and reporting of overhead lines and associated equipment, including cable laying and necessary excavation.
  • Inspect overhead lines and report any defects or ongoing work in the vicinity.
  • Conduct work on live 240/415v apparatus and equipment.
  • Execute live line operations on overhead lines up to and including 33kV.
  • Install, connect, disconnect, or relocate metering systems.
  • Replace links and fuses on the 240/415v network.
  • Utilize meters and instruments to record readings.
  • Assist in conducting resistance, thermal, and height measurements on overhead lines.
  • Set up and inspect scaffolding and other support structures.
  • Perform tree felling and trimming as necessary.
  • Operate vehicles, ensuring cleanliness and roadworthiness.
  • Manage communications and data transmission equipment.
  • Use mechanical aids and portable tools effectively.
  • Switch, isolate, and earth systems when authorized.
  • Participate in standby duties as required.

Nature and Scope:

You will collaborate with your team to meet the targets outlined in the Performance Dashboard, demonstrating initiative and the ability to manage risk assessments to maintain a safe working environment.

Qualifications:

  • LV & HV Authorization
  • EPN network competency certification
  • City & Guilds 232 certification
  • Ability to work independently
  • Capable of conducting self-risk assessments
  • Team-oriented mindset
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new skills
  • Experience in overhead line construction and maintenance.
