We are pleased to present a part-time opportunity that is essential to our ongoing and future initiatives within the community. The role of the Centre Manager offers the ideal candidate a chance to lead with assurance, broaden opportunities, and guide the Centre towards a more promising future.

The Bengali Workers Association (BWA) holds significant potential, and we seek individuals for these roles to collaborate effectively, integrate with the broader staff team, and foster growth within the organization. The salary mentioned reflects the full-time equivalent for a total of 21 hours, with an annual compensation of £26,000.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development

  • Enhance the revenue that BWA can generate through its various activities, facilities, and services.
  • Assist in fundraising efforts from trusts, local authorities, businesses, and the community.
  • Create new initiatives and services to address community needs and ensure sustainable income to build reserves.
  • Establish connections with organizations that can evolve into active partnerships for new projects and services.

Operational Management

  • Collaborate effectively with trustees, staff, and centre users to develop and implement a program that serves the local community.
  • Ensure robust systems are in place for monitoring and evaluating project outcomes, directly reporting to funders as necessary.
  • Guarantee effective promotional and marketing strategies are established, including the creation of informational and publicity materials.
  • Organize the Annual General Meeting in consultation with the Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
  • Maintain the Centre in a presentable, clean, and well-maintained condition, ensuring it is fit for purpose.

Financial and Legal Oversight

  • Contribute to the planning, development, and execution of key operational plans, including the Business Plan and Fundraising/Income Strategy.
  • Oversee the organization's daily financial activities, including rental income and other transactions.
  • Prepare annual budgets, monthly and quarterly financial reports for the Board of Trustees in collaboration with the organization's treasurer, and coordinate the production of annual audited accounts compliant with relevant laws.
  • Ensure procurement controls are in place to secure value for money.

Organizational Management

  • Effectively manage the premises, equipment, resources, and services to ensure community benefit.
  • Establish and maintain an efficient system for recruiting, managing, training, and developing staff to achieve the organization's objectives.
  • Facilitate Board meetings and track actions and agreements made by the Board.
  • Be available for occasional evenings and weekends as needed and undertake other duties as required.

Policy and Influence

  • Identify local and strategic issues relevant to community and voluntary organizations.
  • Influence and negotiate policies, projects, and programs that benefit local communities.
  • Represent the organization effectively to external bodies seeking growth opportunities.

Additional Duties

  • Perform any other duties commensurate with the nature of the job to meet the needs of BWA.
  • Adhere to the organization's equal opportunities policy, health and safety policy, and all other BWA policies.
Qualifications
  • Degree-level education or equivalent training.
  • A project management qualification or accredited fundraising training is desirable.
  • A minimum of 3 years in a senior management position within a medium-sized organization (i.e., income exceeding £200,000) in a Voluntary or Statutory Authority context.
  • Experience managing budgets and financial systems with a turnover of at least £200,000 annually.
  • Proven experience in staff development and leadership, including managing a team to achieve results.
  • Experience in supporting fundraising from diverse sources and ensuring effective delivery of funded work.
  • Experience working with a Board of Trustees and fulfilling duties arising from strategic direction and policies.
  • Proven ability to develop networks and partnerships, promoting inter-agency collaboration.
  • Experience managing change in a challenging environment is desirable.
  • Understanding of the personal and social needs of individuals in a multicultural inner-city setting.
  • Knowledge of working sensitively with minority ethnic communities, particularly the norms of the Bangladeshi community, is desirable.
  • Strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent project management, planning, and organizational skills.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset towards project development and income generation.
  • Ability to remain composed and focused under pressure while managing competing priorities.
  • Capacity to maintain professional relationships with staff, clients, volunteers, and partner organizations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint).
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding and empathy towards equal opportunities policies.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends as required.
  • Proficiency in Bengali/Sylheti is desirable.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: £38,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
