We are currently in search of a Senior Estimator to become part of our Highways division. This role is conveniently located and accessible from various regions.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Area Commercial Manager, the Senior Estimator will collaborate closely with the Estimating Manager. The primary objective of this role is to assist the Commercial Team in achieving projected budgets through effective pricing and management of the tendering process.

As a Senior Estimator, your responsibilities will include:

  • Negotiating and securing work contracts
  • Building and nurturing effective relationships with both new and existing clients, contributing positively as part of a team
  • Overseeing the preparation and submission of all pricing documentation for the contracting business while ensuring adherence to internal review protocols
  • Identifying and developing new business opportunities, ensuring high-quality, competitive tenders are submitted, and targeted contracts are successfully acquired, considering business capacity, margins, and financial risks
  • Conducting pre-contract commercial evaluations to pinpoint opportunities and risks within proposed contracts
  • Performing detailed assessments of subcontractor and supplier quotations for inclusion in tenders and preparing tender handover reports for the operations delivery team
  • Formulating and influencing bid strategies while researching market trends and data to enhance bid success
  • Ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, including Health and Safety, Environmental, and Sustainability standards
  • Mentoring and developing Apprentices within the team
The Ideal Candidate

Ideal candidates for the Senior Estimator position will possess a background in commercial estimating, preferably within the highways surfacing sector. However, experience in a civil engineering context is also welcomed.

As a Senior Estimator, you should demonstrate:

  • Operational technical expertise, ideally from the highways sector
  • Experience in pricing various tenders, including local authority and major projects
  • The ability to cultivate relationships with internal and external stakeholders across different seniority levels to secure work and enhance profitability
  • Excellent communication abilities
  • The capacity to influence others and collaborate effectively within a team
  • Strong commercial insight and the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Attention to detail
  • A robust drive to succeed, innovate, and improve
  • Proven sales capabilities and negotiation skills
  • Familiarity with NEC 3 and 4 forms of contract
  • Experience with Causeway 3 Estimating software (desirable)
