Job Title: Senior Learning Support Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Learning Support Assistant to join our team at MidKent College. As a Senior Learning Support Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students with additional needs, working closely with our Learning Support Coordinators to ensure effective planning and timetabling of support.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of Learning Support Assistants to provide support for students within a designated department, undertaking planning and timetabling to ensure effective deployment of LSAs.
  • Support the Learning Support Coordinators in leading a group of LSAs to provide support for students, prioritizing needs and providing induction support for new LSAs.
  • Plan and deliver training and development opportunities for LSAs, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to support students effectively.
  • Work closely with the ALS team to ensure that LSAs are recording progress against EHCP outcomes/targets for the learners they are supporting.
  • Support students with Learning difficulties or disabilities in small groups, 1:1 or in the classroom, setting SMART targets and monitoring and reviewing student progress.
  • Liaise with relevant staff regarding any changes in support, including the preparation of appropriate resources to aid teaching of students with disabilities/difficulties.
  • Attend EHCP Annual Reviews and work with the Transition Officer and SEN Practitioner to identify, implement and monitor transition arrangements.
  • Complete day-to-day administration to meet department needs and attend staff development activities, department and Learning Support meetings and Focus days as required.
Requirements:
  • Experience of working with students with additional needs and supporting them in a learning environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, staff and parents.
  • Ability to lead and manage a team of LSAs, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Knowledge of EHCPs and the support requirements for students with additional needs.
  • Ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
