About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Agricultural Recycling Operations Manager to join our bio recycling team at Thames Water. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient recycling of sewage sludge for agriculture in a defined geographical area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and develop a geographically dispersed technical team to ensure the delivery of performance targets and objectives.
  • Responsible for safely and efficiently recycling sewage sludge for our customers in agriculture within a given geographical area.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with farmers, landowners, agronomists, agents, and other rural community stakeholders to promote the beneficial use of sewage sludge as a fertilizer replacement.
  • Liaise with Environmental Health Officers, Environment Agency Officers, and local communities to ensure that recycling operations have a minimum impact on the environment and the public.
  • Coordinate with the broader recycling team to ensure the safe, effective, and efficient management of the recycling operation and contract, thereby improving financial performance.
  • Manage and monitor the contract and the contractors in a defined area, promoting a robust, challenging, and effective business relationship.
  • Responsible for monitoring the contractor's Health and Safety performance of agricultural operations in a defined area.
  • Source land for recycling biosolids, building and maintaining a land bank to sustain the company's recycling requirements for the present and future.
  • Manage the sales process, including fertilizer advice, pricing, and availability, land suitability, soil sampling, risk assessment of land to be spread and stockpiled, site-specific contractor liaison, order entry, and permit production via TDS (land application management software).
  • Develop and reassess procedures and work methods to increase working and financial performance.
Requirements
  • An agricultural background with a good knowledge of rural practice is essential, preferably with sales experience in a similar field such as biosolid management.
  • Confident communication skills to effectively engage with farmers, agronomists, and contractors.
  • Sales experience would be an advantage in this role.
  • Organized, flexible, responsive to change, and able to manage your own time.
  • Awareness of current agricultural initiatives and legislation, such as the Nitrates Directive and Cross-Compliance.
  • FACTS or BASIS training would be advantageous.
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary from £30,000 - £44,000 per annum.
  • 26 days holiday per year increasing to 30 with length of service (plus bank holidays).
