About the Position
The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council is looking for a Portfolio Manager to join our Research and Innovation Funding Delivery (RIFD) team. This team is dedicated to overseeing the management, peer evaluation, and allocation of research and innovation grants. The focus of this role will be on managing the evaluation of groundbreaking research proposals from the academic sector aimed at addressing significant bioscience issues. We are in search of a candidate with a solid understanding of Life Sciences and a keen interest in collaborating with universities, research institutions, and businesses both in the UK and internationally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborating with BBSRC colleagues to develop and establish new funding initiatives.
- Leading the grant application, evaluation, and award processes for BBSRC’s funding initiatives; overseeing external peer reviews and managing expert assessment panels.
- Utilizing your expertise in BBSRC’s funding programs and policies to offer guidance to the research and innovation community and internal staff on grant applications, funding policies, and peer review processes.
- Organizing and facilitating peer review meetings across the UK, ensuring fair and thorough assessment of all applications.
- Providing outreach and advice to the research and innovation community and other stakeholders regarding BBSRC’s funding programs, processes, and policies.
- Applying your knowledge of BBSRC’s scientific portfolio and funding processes to contribute to the continuous enhancement of application, evaluation, and award procedures; supporting the office and research community during the implementation of changes.
Candidate Profile:
- A degree in a biological or related field, along with relevant professional experience.
- A clear interest in and understanding of the objectives and goals of BBSRC.
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks, manage multiple activities, and meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and external partners.
- Excellent communication skills, including the capacity to produce clear and structured documents and presentations for various audiences.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and extract meaningful insights accurately and responsibly.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally and to work on-site for a minimum of four days per month.
