Role Overview

The Engineering Project Leader will be instrumental in overseeing the engineering aspects of the HyNet Project, which is part of our broader hydrogen initiative. This position is crucial for the successful development and implementation of a pioneering hydrogen pipeline network in the North West, aligning with our Investment & Future Energy strategy. The role requires effective collaboration with technical suppliers, industry stakeholders, and internal teams to ensure the project meets its objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the engineering delivery for the project, adhering to established policies and standards for hydrogen transportation.
  • Champion safe design practices, identifying potential risks and implementing corrective measures.
  • Develop and execute Engineering Management and Assurance plans.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation in accordance with project governance.
  • Provide regular updates to the Project Manager and stakeholders, ensuring alignment with project governance.
  • Oversee the engineering scope for key contracts, including procurement and management of contractors.
  • Coordinate engineering deliverables with contractors and consultants, addressing commercial and risk management aspects.
  • Manage technical risks throughout the project lifecycle, implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Support the procurement and delivery of essential components for the hydrogen pipeline.
  • Facilitate the coordination of Functional Project Safety Assessments (FPSA) for the project.
  • Ensure compliance with CDM 2015 regulations and provide technical support for other hydrogen initiatives within Cadent.
Qualifications and Skills

The ideal candidate will possess strong technical judgment and engineering expertise, consistent with Chartered Engineer status. A thorough understanding of project delivery requirements and governance is essential to ensure a safe and efficient network within project constraints.

Essential Qualifications
  • Experience in engineering within gas transmission, oil and gas, or petrochemical sectors, with a focus on process safety.
  • Knowledge of UK or international pipeline design and material standards.
  • Experience in commercial and contract management.
  • Background in project delivery within pipeline or process plant environments.
  • Proven leadership in managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in operational support and project phases related to construction and commissioning.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Familiarity with UK Gas Industry and Safety Regulations.
  • Understanding of CDM 2015.
  • Knowledge of UK gas distribution network design and engineering standards.
  • Experience with hydrogen or sour gas systems.
