The American Express payment network is essential for processing and authorizing millions of transactions daily. This network serves as the backbone for all payment operations, relying on real-time, low-latency, and highly available components. As a Software Engineer, you will play a crucial role in developing top-tier software through consistent development practices, including tools, common components, and thorough documentation. Your responsibilities will encompass the design, development, troubleshooting, debugging, evaluation, modification, deployment, and documentation of software and systems that cater to customer-facing applications, business applications, and internal user applications.

What impact will you have in this position?
  • Developing software that meets quality and performance standards using distributed enterprise frameworks.
  • Engaging in code reviews, testing, and other quality assurance activities.
  • Identifying and resolving defects in basic software components.
  • Facilitating the deployment, support, and monitoring of software across various environments.
  • Automating deployment processes in testing and production settings.
  • Scaling applications according to demand forecasts.
Essential Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in software development within a professional setting, or equivalent experience, including:
  • Proficiency in Java application design, software development, and automated testing (Java 11 and above).
  • Intermediate understanding of fundamental infrastructure technologies and components.
  • Familiarity with application containers based on Spring, Vert.X, or similar technologies.
  • Knowledge of Cloud services, including DevOps principles and CI/CD tools.
  • Experience with event-driven and microservices architecture for high-availability and distributed systems.
  • Proficient in using Spring Framework, Junit, GitHub, Microservices, Splunk, and APIs.
  • Experience with test-driven development and unit testing frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of version control tools (Git) and build tools such as Maven or Gradle.
