About the Role

The National Grid is at the heart of the UK's energy system, working to balance electricity supply and demand. As an Engineering Delivery Manager, you will play a critical role in leading the engineering delivery for various programmes in the Engineering Solutions area.

About Us

The National Grid is Great Britain's electricity system operator, using its expertise to keep the electricity flowing directly to where it's needed. We are transitioning to become the National Energy System Operator, a new independent body responsible for planning Great Britain's electricity and gas networks and operating the electricity system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead high-performing engineering teams to generate solutions that meet customer needs.
  • Own the engineering delivery strategy and resource profile to ensure project delivery.
  • Manage interfaces with the overall delivery strategy for the wider programme.
  • Work with senior delivery managers to define the organisation and work breakdown required to deliver to customer needs.
  • Define engineering team work packages in terms of resources required, budgets assigned to each task, risks, and assumptions on these and the timescales to deliver within.
  • Plan and prioritise activities required to deliver the solution to the contract schedule, costs, and quality.
  • Day-to-day management of the engineering team's activities, ensuring proactive management of issues, opportunities, and risks.
  • Work with Scrum Masters to report on engineering efficiency for the project.
  • Act as People Manager for the engineering team on the project and provide feedback into people manager reviews with functional discipline leads.

About You

We're looking for someone with:

  • An engineering degree and 5+ years of management experience.
  • Proven experience as a technical leader, ideally within a similar industry.
  • Confidence in writing and reading code.
  • Experience mentoring and coaching engineers.
  • Experience developing engineering skills in line with business needs.
  • Experience implementing best practices and ways of working across a team.
  • Experience working in Agile environments and an Agile culture and ethos.
  • A deep understanding of how to translate product and business goals into technology solutions.
  • A passion for what you do and a high interest in keeping up with current best practices in your areas of expertise.
  • Great communication skills and a love of sharing knowledge with others, helping them grow.

What You'll Get

A competitive salary between £64,000 – 90,000, dependent on experience and capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus of up to 15% of your salary for stretch performance, 28 days annual leave as standard, and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
