Job Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Consultant in Acute Medicine at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. As a key member of our acute medicine department, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our services.

The post holder will work closely with our existing acute physicians to deliver a high standard of acute care across the Trust. You will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive environment, with a focus on delivering excellent patient outcomes and improving patient safety.

The role will involve working 2 out of 3 weeks in acute medicine, with the third week spent in a medical specialty according to your training and experience. You will have the opportunity to work in a variety of settings, including the acute medical unit and the emergency department.

Main Duties of the Job

The post holder will be responsible for:

  • Carrying out ward rounds and MDT meetings in rotation with other acute physicians
  • Working alongside existing consultant leads and associate specialists to deliver high-quality patient care
  • Participating in the development of our acute medicine services and contributing to strategic planning
  • Teaching and training within the multidisciplinary service
  • Active involvement in multidisciplinary team meetings and directorate clinical governance activity
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register or be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT)
  • College Membership (MRCP) or qualification of an equivalent level
  • Advanced Life Support or demonstration of ability to achieve ALS immediately upon appointment
  • Evidence of being up to date and fit to practice safely, and aware of own training needs
