Key ResponsibilitiesThe individual in this position will hold both strategic and operational duties, leading the formulation and implementation of superior clinical trial methodologies. This role is integral to establishing a comprehensive National Ophthalmology Clinical Trial Network.
As a vital member of the leadership team, the Head of Clinical Research and Statistical Analysis will be responsible for guiding and motivating research teams to secure substantial funding from diverse sources, thereby enhancing the operational capabilities of the NHS clinical research framework.
Primary DutiesThe appointee will play a crucial role in delivering expert statistical guidance and designing clinical trials, with an emphasis on:
- Boosting the success rate of grant applications.
- Enhancing the portfolio of clinical trials supported by the NHS.
Educational Background:
- A PhD in Statistics or Applied Health Research, or an equivalent professional qualification in a relevant field, or substantial relevant experience.
- A distinguished international reputation demonstrated through a consistent record of research outputs, publications in reputable journals, conference presentations, patents, and successful knowledge transfer initiatives.
- Proven experience in supervising Master's and/or PhD candidates to successful completion.
- Experience in a senior capacity within a Clinical Trials Unit or related environment.
- In-depth knowledge of clinical trial methodologies and implementation processes.
- Strong understanding of general medical statistics as applied to ophthalmic research.
- Familiarity with Good Clinical Practice and the regulatory framework governing clinical trials.
This position requires a background check in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, necessitating a submission for Disclosure to verify any prior criminal convictions.
