Job Title: Senior Biomedical Scientist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Biomedical Scientist to join our Microbiology team at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for leading and supervising the day-to-day delivery of a diagnostic service within a section of Microbiology.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide advanced biomedical science technical support in a specific area of expertise by providing training, advice, technical development, troubleshooting, and supervision.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and competency to practice within Microbiology by participating in preparing and processing diagnostic investigations on biological specimens in accordance with agreed protocols and standard operational procedures (SOP).
  • Lead a few areas of the lab and be responsible for all documentation and techniques in that area.
  • Assist in maintaining appropriate internal and external quality assurance to recognize poor performance and act accordingly.
  • Assist with the receipt of goods and maintenance of consumable stocks.
  • Aware of the cost of resources and work as economically as practical in achieving objectives.
  • Suggest ways to improve working practices.
  • Perform any other duties, commensurate with the post and in the interest of the service.
  • Supervise and organize the workflow through all sections of the lab making the best possible use of available resources.
  • Train and supervise junior staff.
  • Liaise with consultants within and outside the department to identify and implement new techniques.
  • Isolate, identify, and perform antibiotic susceptibility testing on microorganisms.
  • Interpret and report results via the hospital computer system.
Requirements:
  • MSc or equivalents.
  • Advanced knowledge of microbiology.
