Job Summary

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Biomedical Scientist to lead our Biomedical Laboratory team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for supervising and mentoring junior staff, ensuring the smooth operation of laboratory procedures, and maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

Main Responsibilities
  • Lead the Biomedical Laboratory team and report to the Chief Biomedical Scientist.
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff, including Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners, and Medical Laboratory Assistants.
  • Rotate through all areas of the Biomedical Laboratory, including Point of Care, to ensure that all specimens are processed in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Maintain, develop, and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Ensure that all staff are competent in their roles and that equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
  • Assist in maintaining internal and external quality assurance, recognizing areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
Requirements
  • Postgraduate qualification in Biomedical Science or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years' supervisory experience in a Biomedical Laboratory setting.
  • IBMS Specialist Portfolio or equivalent.
