Join our team as a Senior Risk Officer, Gas & Power, and take on a challenging role that requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Job SummaryThe Senior Risk Officer will be responsible for measuring, analyzing, and monitoring the positions and P&L, challenging assumptions made by the front office, and delivering reports and high-quality digital tools to improve decision-making and risk management.
Main Responsibilities- Analyze and model market risk for all trading activities, assessing and monitoring physical and financial trades.
- Develop and maintain risk reporting/analytics to communicate position, P&L, and market risk to traders and management.
- Challenge assumptions made by traders and provide critical thinking around risk reporting processes, quantification, and analysis of commodity exposure and forward price movements for trading activities.
- Maintain, enhance, and review risk models, testing new risk calculations, evaluating model assumptions against fundamentals, and communicating suggested modeling/valuation enhancements to achieve better valuation and risk quantification.
- Work closely with Traders to quantify and explain the sources of risk in their portfolios and contribute to the reporting of Trading Results/Positions to Senior Management.
- Prepare various reports and analyses for publishing internally and to the Management Board as applicable.
- Work closely with Back Office, Finance, Credit, Legal & Compliance, and Business Unit Control to ensure best control practices, operational efficiency, and policy/limit compliance.
- Coordinate with Compliance to ensure compliance requirements are met.
- Support, identify, and assist in the implementation of process improvements, from system testing and implementations to desk-level processes.
- Identify and communicate operational risks, define risk mitigating measures, and set priorities.
- Month-end and year-end reconciliations with finance and external auditors as required.
- Provide backup/support for other desk's Risk Officers as necessary.
The ideal candidate should have a university degree, preferably in Computing, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, or Finance from a top-ranked University, and a minimum of 5 years in the commodity trading business, preferably within a major trading house or utility company.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, entrepreneurial spirit, and ability to work with limited supervision are essential. Excellent attention to detail, high degree of accuracy and efficiency under set deadlines, and ability to work independently and as part of a team are also required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, VBA, and other data analysis tools, as well as good knowledge of Access and SQL Server, are necessary. Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is required, and French and/or any other European language is a plus.
