Cheshire and Wirral Partnership Trust is seeking a dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist to enhance our clinical team.

This role is a replacement position situated within the South East Locality of Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be integrated into the clinical service unit focused on secure and rehabilitation services, which encompasses four inpatient units and a forensic outreach team. This vacancy arises from the previous post-holder transitioning to another role within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

The consultant will be required to engage in 10 programmed activities weekly, allocated as 7.5 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA). Additionally, participation in an on-call rota is expected, with an extra 1 PA allocated for emergency duties. Initial responsibilities, to be discussed with the Speciality Clinical Director of Adult Mental Health Services, may include:

The appointee will provide clinical leadership for a 15-bed adult mental health low secure rehabilitation unit and oversee the 7 step-down rehabilitation beds. They will also lead discussions regarding referrals to these units through the single point of access gatekeeping/referral meetings.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Must hold full registration with the GMC and possess a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Must be included on the GMC Specialist Register or be within six months of achieving this.
  • Must have approved clinician status or be able to obtain it within three months of appointment.
  • Must be approved under S12 or be able to achieve this within three months of appointment.
  • Must maintain good standing with the GMC regarding any warnings or conditions on practice.
Qualifications
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Higher degree or qualification in medical education, clinical research, or management.
  • Additional clinical qualifications are preferred.
Clinical Expertise and Experience
  • Extensive knowledge in the specialty.
  • Strong clinical skills utilizing a bio-psycho-social approach and broad medical knowledge.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Able to navigate clinical complexity and uncertainty.
  • Decision-making based on evidence and collaborative input.
  • Ability to fulfill responsibilities under MHA and MCA.
  • Comprehensive specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to the role within the NHS or a comparable service.
