Cheshire and Wirral Partnership Trust is seeking a dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist to enhance our clinical team.
This position is a replacement role located within the South East Locality, specifically in the Nether Alderley and Macclesfield area. The successful candidate will be integrated into the clinical service unit focused on secure and rehabilitation services, which encompasses four inpatient units and a forensic support outreach team. This vacancy arises from the current post-holder transitioning to another role within the organization.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe consultant will be expected to engage in 10 programmed activities weekly, allocated as 7.5 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA). Additionally, participation in an on-call rota is required, with an extra 1 PA designated for emergency responsibilities. Initial duties will be discussed with the Speciality Clinical Director of Adult Mental Health Services and may include:
The appointee will provide clinical leadership for a 15-bed adult mental health low secure rehabilitation unit and oversee the 7 step-down rehabilitation beds within the Maple facility. The consultant will also lead discussions regarding referrals to these beds through the single point of access gatekeeping/referral meetings.

Eligibility Criteria- Must be fully registered with the GMC and possess a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
- Must be included on the GMC Specialist Register or be within six months of achieving this status.
- Must have approved clinician status or be able to obtain it within three months of appointment.
- Must be approved under S12 or be able to achieve this within three months of appointment.
- Must be in good standing with the GMC regarding any warnings or conditions on practice.
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Possession of a qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management.
- Additional clinical qualifications are preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in the specialty.
- Strong clinical skills with a bio-psycho-social approach and extensive medical knowledge.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Able to navigate clinical complexity and uncertainty.
- Decision-making based on evidence and experience, including collaboration with others.
- Ability to fulfill responsibilities under the Mental Health Act (MHA) and Mental Capacity Act (MCA).
- A broad range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to the role within the NHS or a comparable service.
This position is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, necessitating a Disclosure submission to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly CRB) to verify any prior criminal convictions.
