Cheshire and Wirral Partnership Trust is seeking a dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist to enhance our clinical team.

This role is a replacement position located within the South East Locality, specifically in the Nether Alderley and Macclesfield area. The successful candidate will join the clinical service unit focused on secure and rehabilitation services, which encompasses four inpatient units and a forensic outreach team. This opportunity arises due to the previous post-holder transitioning to another role within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

The Consultant will be required to engage in 10 programmed activities weekly, comprising 7.5 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA). Additionally, participation in an on-call rota is expected, with an extra 1 PA allocated for emergency duties. Initial responsibilities, which will be discussed with the Speciality Clinical Director of Adult Mental Health Services, East locality, may include:

The appointee will provide clinical leadership for a 15-bed adult mental health low secure rehabilitation unit (Saddlebridge) and oversee the 7 step-down rehabilitation beds within Maple. They will also lead discussions regarding referrals to these facilities through the single point of access gatekeeping/referral meetings.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Must hold full registration with the GMC and possess a license to practice at the time of appointment.
  • Must be included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of eligibility.
  • Must have approved clinician status or be able to obtain it within three months of appointment.
  • Must be approved under S12 or be able to achieve this within three months of appointment.
  • Must maintain good standing with the GMC regarding any warnings or conditions on practice.
Qualifications
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Higher degree or qualification in medical education, clinical research, or management.
  • Additional clinical qualifications are preferred.
Clinical Expertise, Knowledge & Experience
  • In-depth knowledge in the specialty.
  • Strong clinical skills with a bio-psycho-social approach and extensive medical knowledge.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Able to navigate clinical complexity and uncertainty.
  • Decision-making based on evidence and experience, including input from others.
  • Capable of fulfilling duties under the Mental Health Act (MHA) and Mental Capacity Act (MCA).
  • A broad range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to the position within the NHS or a comparable service.
