About the Role

Mace is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Design Manager to join our team. As a Design Manager, you will play a critical role in leading and managing our design resources to deliver exceptional results for our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design Management: Direct and support the implementation and maintenance of our design management system, ensuring adherence to business, statutory, legal, and contractual requirements.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and lead a team of design professionals to deliver key outcomes and contribute to the strategic development of our design management systems.
  • Client Relationships: Engage with clients to ensure successful project delivery and maintain strong relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Design Quality: Oversee the portfolio program for all projects, highlighting opportunities and key challenges, and ensure that design quality is consistently delivered to the highest standards.
  • Business Development: Support business development and work-winning activities, identifying opportunities for growth and contributing to the development of proposals.
  • Training and Development: Ensure that design resources are properly trained and developed, with a focus on continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Implement and execute our design management system, processes, and protocols to meet statutory, legal, and contractual requirements, and manage risk effectively.
Requirements
  • Design Management Expertise: Excellent knowledge and application of design management systems, design risk management, and mitigation, prefabrication/build strategies, business planning, and communication.
  • Leadership and Management: Proven leadership and management experience of large, diverse teams, with the ability to delegate, lead others, take initiative, and make appropriate decisions.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong technical knowledge to challenge projects/design/proposals, with expertise in delivering different typologies and complexities.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication, organizational, presentation, and writing skills, with the ability to influence and persuade senior management towards a desired course of action.
  • Professional Qualifications: Membership of a professional body (RIBA, MICE, CIBSE, CIOB, RICS, CIAT) and a postgraduate qualification (MA, MSc, PGD, etc.) or equivalent.
