About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Oncologist to join our team at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust. As a key member of our cancer care team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our oncology services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive oncology services to patients, working closely with consultant colleagues and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement effective treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality patient care and improve cancer outcomes.
  • Participate in out-of-hours services and provide acute oncology care as required.
  • Liaise with surgeons, physicians, and other specialists to ensure seamless patient care and coordination.
  • Supervise and manage junior medical staff, providing guidance and support to ensure their professional development.
  • Contribute to teaching, examination, and accreditation duties, as well as postgraduate and continuing education initiatives.
  • Engage in clinical audit, continuing medical education, and contribute to the annual appraisal process and job planning review.
  • Pursue research opportunities, working with our thriving Clinical Trials department to advance cancer care and treatment.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across both hospital sites, The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital, Telford.
  • Develop and maintain excellent team-working skills, with a professional attitude and ability to work effectively in a multi-professional team.
  • Deliver clinical and quality targets, working closely with clinical teams and commissioners to achieve agreed goals.
  • Follow patients throughout their clinical pathways, ensuring continuity of care and optimal outcomes.
