About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Oncologist to join our dynamic team at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust. As a Consultant Medical Oncologist, you will play a key role in providing high-quality cancer care to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive Oncology Services, collaborating with consultant colleagues to develop and manage site-specialized cancer services.
  • Participate in the out-of-hours service and provide acute oncology care.
  • Supervise and manage junior medical staff, ensuring their professional development and well-being.
  • Contribute to teaching, examination, and accreditation duties, as well as postgraduate and continuing education, both locally and nationally.
  • Undertake clinical audit, continuing medical education, and contribute to the annual appraisal process, ensuring adherence to GMC standards.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical teams and commissioners to deliver clinical and quality targets.

Our main service locations are the Princess Royal Hospital and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, which provide a wide range of acute hospital services, including accident & emergency, outpatients, diagnostics, inpatient medical care, and critical care.

Person Specification
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • FRCR (Clinical Oncology) or equivalent qualification for Medical Oncology.
  • Higher research degree in a cancer-related subject.
  • Evidence of postgraduate study in the specialty, with an appropriate postgraduate qualification (e.g., MSc).
Entry Criteria
  • Full Registration and a license to practice with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register via one of the following: Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).
  • Previous experience in the management of one or more of the following sites: Upper GI, Urology, Colorectal, Acute Oncology.
  • Ability to take full responsibility for clinical care of patients.
  • Evidence of achievement of competencies in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice.
