Position Overview

The Children's Community Nursing Team is dedicated to providing specialized nursing services to children and adolescents with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). This role is integral to the Integrated Service for Children with Disabilities (ISCD), collaborating across health, education, and social care sectors.

Key Responsibilities

We are seeking motivated and adaptable nursing professionals to engage in a variety of settings, including community environments and educational institutions, to deliver comprehensive, family-oriented care for children and young individuals with intricate health requirements and disabilities. The responsibilities of this role include:

  • Conducting assessments, planning, implementing, and evaluating clinical nursing interventions.
  • Providing specialized nursing services, which may encompass medication administration, suctioning, tracheostomy management, gastrostomy care, and seizure management.
  • Offering holistic support to families, including guidance to access specialized services.
  • Delivering training sessions for families and care staff.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary meetings, including child protection discussions.
  • Advising on health matters related to education, health, and care plans.
  • Supporting children with sleep challenges through a dedicated nursing sleep service, including medication reviews and parental guidance.
  • Mentoring and supervising junior staff and nursing students.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Registered Children's Nurse (RN Child/RSCN) or Registered General Nurse (RGN) with relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • A minimum of two years of post-qualification nursing experience.
  • Experience in community or special school nursing.
  • Proven ability to work with children and young people with disabilities or complex health needs.
  • Experience in supporting and supervising staff and students.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding practices.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Experience in maintaining accurate records and producing reports for various stakeholders.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation and policies affecting children's services.
