Job Overview

Workshop Recruitment is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join our client based in Shoreham-by-sea. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing electrical systems for industrial materials handling equipment, ensuring compliance with UK Ex, ATEX, and IEC Ex regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop project specification documents to meet legislative requirements.
  • Select and integrate electrical components into original machine systems.
  • Create electrical drawings using AutoCAD Electrical to achieve vehicle functionality and compliance.
  • Contribute to the design of components for packaging onto vehicles, considering space constraints.
  • Specify Ex certified primary traction batteries for equipment.
  • Design electrical enclosure layouts and population.
  • Develop design solutions to optimize execution cost.
  • Specify product test requirements to support compliance activities.
  • Produce documentation for product certification and prepare product risk assessments when required.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a similar role.
  • Design of electrical systems.
  • Specification/sizing of electrical components.
  • Understanding of mechanical/electrical system integration.
  • A good knowledge of electrical and electronic systems.
  • HND / Degree or equivalent in electrical, electronics, or automotive engineering.
  • Proficient in using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Design of industrial vehicle electrical systems.
  • Experience of working in a highly regulated environment.
  • Exposure to CE marking and creation of technical construction files.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Design of electrical machine systems and controls.
  • A broad knowledge of electrical and electronic control systems, for example industrial controllers, plc's, AC invertors.
  • CAN protocol knowledge.
  • Knowledge of EMC relating to machines and control techniques.
  • Background in fault finding complex electrical systems.
  • Hazardous area regulations and design standards knowledge.
