Position Overview

The Respiratory Department at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is a vibrant and inclusive team dedicated to delivering exceptional care to our patients. We invite candidates with a specific sub-specialty focus, particularly those interested in COPD, complex pulmonary infections, interstitial lung disease, and/or pulmonary hypertension. Flexible working arrangements, including part-time options and job sharing, can be discussed and tailored to meet individual needs.

Key Responsibilities

This role is under the auspices of University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, with responsibilities outlined for a full-time appointment. The standard job plan consists of 10 Programmed Activities (PAs). Job plans are typically structured around Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and Supporting Professional Activities (SPA), with the possibility of an additional SPA based on departmental requirements during the job plan review. The average maximum weekly programmed activities for direct clinical care will not exceed PA unless agreed upon mutually.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential

  • Proven experience and capability in teaching.
  • MRCP UK (or equivalent) and registration on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register.
  • Evidence of recent engagement in clinical audit and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to lead a team and provide specialist opinions across a wide range of respiratory and general medicine conditions.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate teaching qualifications and experience in simulation or human factors training.
  • Formal management training and experience in change management.
  • Higher degrees and recognition through postgraduate awards.
