We are seeking a dedicated Culinary Support Specialist to join our Bright Horizons Bracknell Day Nursery on a part-time basis of 25 hours per week.

Role Overview:

The primary responsibility of this position is to assist the Chef in preparing and presenting age-appropriate meals to the highest standards within a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. This role involves collaboration with the Cook, nursery staff, and parents to enhance the nursery's care and educational offerings. Accurate inventory management and timely communication of supply needs to the Chef are essential. In the Chef's absence, the Culinary Support Specialist will oversee kitchen operations.

This position requires teamwork and adherence to regulatory standards and Bright Horizons policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment, complying with all internal and external regulations.
  • Model appropriate behavior in a child-focused setting, maintaining professionalism at all times.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and company standards for fire safety, health, and hygiene, completing necessary documentation.
  • Assist in the preparation and cooking of sufficient age-appropriate meals for all children daily, minimizing waste.
  • Take responsibility for accommodating dietary needs and effectively communicating these to the team.
  • Handle confidential matters with discretion, particularly regarding children's personal information.
  • Promote and implement relevant policies and procedures.
  • Fulfill safeguarding responsibilities by understanding and adhering to the Safeguarding Policies and Procedures.
  • Complete Child Protection training every two years as outlined in the Child Protection Policy, ensuring this knowledge informs your ability to protect the children in your care.
  • Collaborate with the Chef, nursery team, and parents to promote a healthy and nutritious diet.
  • Support the Chef in meeting budgetary constraints.
  • Utilize approved suppliers and ensure accurate delivery records are maintained.
  • Assist with nursery events such as BBQs, Fetes, staff meetings, and children's cooking clubs.
  • Adhere to company Health and Safety guidelines, taking reasonable care of yourself and others.
  • Work alongside the Chef and management to achieve positive inspection outcomes.
  • Recognize the importance of safety and your role in maintaining it.
  • Demonstrate initiative and resilience, taking responsibility with a proactive attitude.
  • In the absence of the Chef, ensure the kitchen operates safely and efficiently.

Essential Experience:

  • Experience in any cooking-related role within domestic or commercial settings.
  • Food Safety CIEH Level 2 or equivalent, to be completed on the first day of employment.
  • Solid understanding of COSHH regulations.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience in cooking for young children.
  • Familiarity with the EHO process.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of managing various dietary requirements, particularly concerning food allergies.

Qualifications:

  • Food Safety CIEH Level 2 or equivalent, to be completed on the first day of employment.

  • Strong communication skills with adults, children, and parents.
  • Proficient in using diverse communication techniques.
  • Ability to foster teamwork.
