We are seeking a dedicated Culinary Support Assistant to join our Bright Horizons Bracknell Day Nursery on a part-time basis of 25 hours per week.

Role Overview:

The primary responsibility of this position is to assist the chef in preparing and presenting age-appropriate meals to the highest standards within a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. Collaborate with the Cook, nursery staff, and parents to enhance the nursery's care and educational offerings. Maintain accurate inventory records and communicate supply needs to the Chef. In the Chef's absence, oversee the kitchen operations.

This role necessitates teamwork and adherence to regulatory standards and Bright Horizons policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment in compliance with internal and external standards.
  • Model and encourage appropriate behavior in a child-centric environment, maintaining professionalism at all times.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and company standards for fire safety, health, and hygiene, completing necessary documentation.
  • Assist in the preparation and cooking of sufficient age-appropriate meals for all children daily, minimizing waste.
  • Take responsibility for accommodating all dietary needs and effectively communicating them to the team.
  • Handle sensitive information with confidentiality, particularly regarding children.
  • Promote and implement nursery policies and procedures.
  • Fulfill roles and responsibilities related to child safeguarding, ensuring understanding and implementation of safeguarding policies.
  • Complete Child Protection training biennially as per the Child Protection Policy, ensuring it informs safeguarding practices.
  • Collaborate with the Chef, nursery team, and parents to promote a healthy and nutritious diet.
  • Assist the Chef in meeting budgetary constraints.
  • Utilize approved suppliers and ensure accurate delivery records are maintained.
  • Participate in nursery events such as BBQs, Fetes, staff meetings, and children's cooking clubs.
  • Adhere to company Health and Safety guidelines, taking reasonable care of oneself and others.
  • Work collaboratively with the Chef and management to achieve positive inspection outcomes.
  • Recognize the importance of safety and your role in maintaining it.
  • Demonstrate initiative and resilience, taking responsibility with a proactive attitude.
  • In the Chef's absence, ensure the kitchen operates safely and efficiently.

Essential Experience:

  • Experience in a cooking-related role within domestic or commercial settings.
  • Food Safety CIEH Level 2 or equivalent - to be completed on the first day of employment.
  • Solid understanding of COSHH regulations.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience in a role involving cooking for young children.
  • Familiarity with the EHO process.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of managing various dietary requirements, particularly concerning food allergies.

Qualifications:

  • Food Safety CIEH Level 2 or equivalent - to be completed on the first day of employment.
