Position: French Language Assistant

Working Hours: Term time only (35 weeks per year)

The Perse School is a prestigious independent co-educational institution catering to students aged 3-18. Our Modern Foreign Languages department is composed of a dedicated team of educators specializing in four primary languages: French, Spanish, German, and Mandarin, alongside three additional extracurricular languages: Italian, Japanese, and Arabic.


Role Overview:

We are seeking a motivated and organized individual with a passion for the French language to assist in fostering students' language skills for a specified duration.


The successful candidate will focus on enhancing students' spoken French abilities and their understanding of Francophone cultures, while also supporting preparations for various speaking examinations.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Head of Modern Foreign Languages and the Head of French to implement the curriculum.
  • Design and conduct engaging activities for small groups of Year 9, Year 10, and Year 11 students to prepare them for speaking components of the AQA GCSE exam.
  • Prepare resources and facilitate speaking lessons for Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth students in preparation for A Level speaking assessments.
  • Assist Upper Sixth students in selecting and researching topics for their independent research projects.
  • Work with small groups of DELF A2, B1, and B2 students to ready them for their speaking examinations.
  • Provide conversation practice for lower school students, contingent on scheduling.
  • Co-teach and occasionally lead lessons across various age groups.
  • Support all students in developing their speaking skills, focusing on vocabulary, grammar accuracy, and pronunciation to promote fluency and confidence.
  • Enhance students' understanding of Francophone cultures and current events.
  • Adapt lessons to accommodate students' individual learning needs and abilities.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Degree level education or equivalent.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in French.
  • Strong written and spoken English skills.
  • Familiarity with GCSE and A Level French speaking exam standards.
  • In-depth knowledge and enthusiasm for Francophone cultures and current affairs.
  • A genuine passion for working with young learners.
  • Exemplary communication and interpersonal abilities.
