Position: French Language Assistant

Location: Cambridge

Salary: £27,963 per annum

Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract

Working Hours: Term time only (35 weeks per year)

The Perse School is a prestigious independent co-educational institution catering to students aged 3-18. Our Modern Foreign Languages department boasts a dedicated team of educators specializing in four primary languages: French, Spanish, German, and Mandarin, alongside three extracurricular languages: Italian, Japanese, and Arabic.


Role Overview:

We are seeking a passionate and organized individual fluent in French to inspire and assist students in enhancing their French language proficiency for a designated period.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Head of Department to design and implement engaging activities for small groups of students in Years 9, 10, and 11, focusing on AQA GCSE speaking exam preparation.
  • Prepare and deliver speaking lessons for Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth students, ensuring readiness for A Level speaking assessments.
  • Guide Upper Sixth students in selecting and researching topics for their independent research projects.
  • Support DELF A2, B1, and B2 students in their speaking exam preparations.
  • Facilitate conversation practice for lower school students in small groups as scheduling allows.
  • Co-teach and occasionally lead lessons across various age groups.
  • Assist all students in enhancing their speaking abilities, focusing on vocabulary, grammar accuracy, and pronunciation for improved fluency and confidence.
  • Foster an understanding and appreciation of Francophone cultures and current events among students.
  • Adapt lessons to accommodate students' individual learning needs and abilities.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Degree level education or equivalent.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in French.
  • Strong written and spoken English skills.
  • Familiarity with GCSE and A Level French speaking exam criteria.
  • In-depth knowledge and interest in Francophone cultures and current affairs.
  • A genuine enthusiasm for working with young learners.
  • Demonstrated high standards of behavior and ability to embody the school's values.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
