Position: French Language Assistant

The Perse School is recognized as one of the leading independent co-educational day schools in the UK, catering to students aged 3-18.

The Modern Foreign Languages department boasts a dedicated team of educators specializing in four primary languages (French, Spanish, German, Mandarin) alongside three additional extracurricular languages (Italian, Japanese, Arabic).

Role Overview

The school seeks to appoint a motivated and organized French speaker to assist in fostering students' French language abilities for a specified duration.

The ideal candidate will focus on enhancing students' spoken French proficiency and their understanding of Francophone cultures, while also contributing to the preparation for various speaking examinations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Report to the Head through the Assistant Head (Compliance and Inspection), with daily oversight from the Director of Modern Foreign Languages and the Head of French.
  • Design and implement engaging activities for small groups of Year 9, Year 10, and Year 11 students to prepare them for speaking assessments.
  • Create resources and deliver speaking lessons for Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth students to prepare them for A Level speaking exams.
  • Assist Upper Sixth students in selecting and preparing topics for their independent research projects.
  • Work with small groups of DELF A2, B1, and B2 students to prepare them for their speaking evaluations.
  • Facilitate conversation practice with lower school students, subject to scheduling.
  • Co-teach and occasionally lead lessons across various age groups.
  • Support all students in developing their speaking skills, ensuring a high level of vocabulary, grammar accuracy, and pronunciation.
  • Enhance students' understanding of and interest in Francophone cultures and current events.
  • Adapt lessons to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with special educational requirements.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Degree level education or equivalent.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in French.
  • Strong written and spoken English skills.
  • Familiarity with GCSE and A Level French speaking exam standards.
  • In-depth knowledge and enthusiasm for Francophone cultures and current affairs.
  • A genuine passion for engaging with and educating young learners.
  • Exemplary communication and interpersonal abilities.
