Position Overview

This role is designed for a Medical Oncologist to engage in a comprehensive clinical service within the Breast Disease Group, focusing on 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) weekly.

The appointed oncologist will collaborate with the Breast team to ensure exceptional care for patients diagnosed with breast cancer. This includes responsibilities across outpatient, inpatient, and ambulatory care settings, delivering Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) and contributing to the Breast Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT).

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be involved in:

  • Overseeing the management of breast cancer patients, including those participating in clinical trials, making informed treatment decisions, and providing ongoing care.
  • Engaging in clinical governance activities, ensuring adherence to current protocols, guidelines, and clinical audits under the mentorship of senior consultants.
  • Contributing to ongoing research initiatives and identifying new avenues for research development within the team.
  • Updating and creating evidence-based protocols for patient care, along with fulfilling administrative responsibilities related to patient management.
  • Maintaining professional development in line with the Royal College of Physicians' recommendations.
  • Participating in the education of medical students on oncology topics.
  • Delivering lectures as part of a comprehensive postgraduate teaching program.
  • Actively mentoring junior doctors and other team members in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Conducting clinical audits as a member of the Medical Staff Committee.

Additionally, the consultants in this department share an on-call rota, which involves a commitment to provide support on a rotating basis. The on-call consultant is responsible for conducting post-take ward rounds to assess newly admitted patients and those requiring urgent attention.

The position offers access to office facilities equipped with necessary technology and administrative support.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential qualifications include:

  • MRCP or equivalent.
  • Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT).
  • Eligibility for Specialist Registration.
  • Proven track record of ethical research in oncology.
  • Extensive experience in oncology, particularly breast cancer.

Desirable qualifications may include:

  • An advanced degree.
  • Recent publications in peer-reviewed journals.
