Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and customer-oriented Library Services Assistant to join our team at the University of Oxford. In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting patrons at the historic Bodleian Old Library and Radcliffe Camera, facilitating their access to library resources.

Your responsibilities will include a variety of tasks at front-line service points, consistently delivering exceptional customer service to library users and the general public. You will also engage in the organization and management of library materials, including sorting and re-shelving books, as well as participating in collection management initiatives throughout the library's reading areas.

This is a permanent, full-time role, requiring a commitment of 36.5 hours per week. The position involves physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, and moving books, as well as utilizing trolleys. Comprehensive training will be provided to ensure your success in this role.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of GCSE qualifications or equivalent, along with strong communication skills to interact effectively and courteously with library users, colleagues, and the public. A solid foundation in general IT skills is essential, as is the ability to perform routine tasks with precision and attention to detail.

Dependability and the capacity to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment are crucial for this position. While prior experience in library services is advantageous, familiarity with library management systems such as ALMA is not required, as training will be provided as needed.
